Founder spotlight

Pastry Chef Sam Ward

Sam started Let's Break Bread Club with a simple idea: bread is better shared, and Charlotte's small businesses deserve a full room on a Monday night.

She is the Head Pastry Chef at L'Ostrica and formerly ran Wentworth & Fenn, the gourmet bakery that put her on Charlotte's best-of lists. Expect strong opinions on crust, crumb, and butter temperature.

Questions

Charlotte bread club FAQ

What is Let's Break Bread Club?

Charlotte's Social Bread Club, founded by Pastry Chef Sam Ward. Once or twice a month we meet at a small local business, share bread, and meet new people.

Do I have to bake to join?

No. Bring a loaf you baked or one you love from a local bakery. Both get the same spot on the table, and no baking experience is needed.

How much does it cost?

Join by October 26 and you're a founding member, free for life. After that, membership is $20/month and covers every meetup plus 3 guest passes a year. Founding rate: $15/month for life with code FOUNDER through Nov 30. Not a member? Drop in to any meetup for $25. Everyone is asked to buy a drink or a snack from the host business, since they open their doors for us.

When and where are the meetups?

Usually a weeknight evening, once or twice a month, at a different small business around Charlotte each time. The next one is Monday, October 26 at Vaulted Oak Brewing. Every meetup is posted on the Meetups page and on Instagram.

How do I RSVP?

Make a free account on this site, then open the meetup and RSVP. Starting October 27, RSVPs need a membership or a $25 drop-in ticket, which you pay for right on the meetup page. Founding members RSVP free.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes. Add up to three guests when you RSVP so we can make name badges and plan the table. Members get 3 free guest passes a year. After that, guests are $25 each. If your friend joins through your referral link, they get $5 off their first month.

How do I pay?

Through Stripe, with a card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link, Amazon Pay, or Klarna. Memberships can also be paid straight from a bank account. Your card details never touch our site.

Can I pause or cancel my membership?

Yes, any time from your account page. Pause for one to three months and keep your rate, or cancel and keep your membership until the end of the time you already paid for. If you're on the founding rate, canceling gives it up, so pausing is usually the better pick.

What about allergies, gluten free, or vegan bread?

Everyone is welcome at this table. Label your bread and its allergens on a post-it at the door, and check the bring-list on the meetup page before you come.

What happens at a meetup?

People set out their bread, swap tips, and taste each other's loaves. Each meetup has a theme and a bread-related raffle. Check in on your phone when you arrive to enter.

Can my business host a meetup?

Yes. Small Charlotte businesses like breweries, coffee shops, and wine bars can apply on the Host a meetup page. We bring a room full of bread lovers on a quieter night.
