Positively Charlotte on your Monday. Who doesn't love a reason to carb load? One Charlotte club is giving pastry perfection, carbs and connection and the Let's Break Bread Club was founded by pastry chef Sam Ward and it's giving community to those who need it. I tried to fit as many bread. We'll see how many we can fit it in a second, but you know you brought some bread fries, which who doesn't love the bread, but tell me about this club because this is so this is such a cool idea I was actually eating bread with butter and I just stood there and I was like we need a bread club in Charlotte because I mean what isn't happy when they eat bread so that's kind of how this all came to fruition and then Your friend
Kind of kept the ball rolling and First meetup is the 26th of October at Vaulted Oak and we're very excited for it so hopefully it'll be a really good turnout.
During the pandemic, so many people got into baking bread. I feel like sourdough had such a huge influx of popularity. Absolutely. And that's why it's either bake your own bread or purchase a loaf from a Local bakery. I'd love to see all of Charlotte come out because I know all y'all know how to bake some sourdough. So you know and like it was like it was the era of banana bread. So also you don't have to be a pastry chef. Just bread lovers, bread enthusiasts, home bakers, professional pastry chefs, regular chefs, everybody is welcome at this table. So how did you come up with this idea also? Because I know that like the goal is really to have people Connect with one another, right? And ever since COVID, I feel like everybody is somewhat still isolated. Everybody's on their phones all the time, which is just the nature of the world that we were.
Once or twice a month but you get to eat That's kind of where it starts. - Yeah, so I know that, I mean, like you said, you're the pastry chef, guys. So what advice would you give to new homebakers, new pastry chefs who are wanting to get a little bit more experience with this? Because you brought us some of your sourdoughs, right? - I did. - So I need some tips for sourdough, Sam. - Yeah. - First and foremost, patience. There's no rushing. For that matter. Scale. Okay. Scaling out your ingredients is very, very important. Never eyeball when you're... Exactly. So you can learn a lot a lot from from baking bread. You know, patience, patience will always be something that you learn from baking. So also, you know, when people are coming to this, is there a sort of kind of bread that you have to bring? Does it have to be sourdough?
Anything in the realm of bread that can Sourdough, focaccia, if you love banana bread, there's a tea bread. Yeah, any kind of quick bread, if you love cinnamon buns, it's a type of bread, bring it on. That's true. And then... So each meetup will have a different theme. Showcased at a level. To them as well. But yeah, it's bring your best. And your best, I love it. So also real quick before I like Is one mistake that a lot of people... Starting to make bread. I think that everybody it's that it is I'm gonna throw it all in a ball. The cardinal rule with bread baking is you never mix your yeast and your salt. Because together at once, obviously you need them together in the mix. But together at once, the salt will kill your yeast. So then your bread won't rise.
Do that. So always keep that separate. With your water and your sugar or milk or whatever your liquid is and then make sure your flour and salt are in a separate bowl and then bring it together. Yes, okay I love it. Great tips from Chef Sam Ward. Okay so we get the information right there on your screen. You can scan that QR code if you want to join the club so it's going to be happening October 26th, right? - Yes. - So very fun, make sure you go and check it out. Thank you so much again for coming in and we're so excited to break some bread with ya. - Yes. - Can't wait.
